ALEXANDROS TASOULIS- NONIKAS

My studies at the Department of Aerospace Science and Technology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens were a defining period in my academic and professional career. My studies in the Department (2020–2025) provided me with a strong theoretical foundation in aerospace science, as well as the opportunity to develop practical skills through labs, group projects, and research activities. Daily interaction with faculty members and participation in student groups greatly fostered my critical thinking, teamwork, and ability to solve complex technical problems.

During my undergraduate studies, I had the opportunity to actively engage in the development of space systems and robotic applications. My thesis focused on the design and implementation of an autonomous micro-rover for exploring and mapping the Moon, with an emphasis on 3D-printed mechanisms. At the same time, my internship at OHB Hellas allowed me to work on satellite communications simulations and studies of satellite structures and mechanisms, gaining valuable experience in real-world space projects.

My volunteer work with student teams was particularly important to my professional development. As a Systems Engineer at Beyond Robotics, I was responsible for the design, integration, and testing of a rover for the European Rover Challenge, where our team won awards in multiple years. Additionally, as an Assembly Integration & Testing Engineer on the FINIX team, I participated in the design of a drag sail for CubeSats and environmental tests at ESA’s ESEC Galaxia. These experiences helped me develop skills in areas such as systems engineering and requirements management.

Today, I am continuing my studies at ISAE SUPAERO, pursuing an MSc in Aerospace Engineering with a specialization in Systems Engineering for space systems. As part of my master’s program, I am conducting research on Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) for the design of a 24U VLEO CubeSat mission for the AST Department. The transition from the Department’s undergraduate program to one of Europe’s leading institutions in the field of aerospace was smooth and successful, thanks to the strong foundation provided by the program.

Looking back, I feel a deep sense of gratitude for the experiences, knowledge, and opportunities that the Department of AST has offered me. My journey to this point is inextricably linked to what I learned and experienced there, and I will continue to contribute to its development in every way I can. I hope that my example will inspire current and future students to passionately pursue their goals in the field of aerospace.
